How to Dive into the Struggle Head First

One week into the new year and how do you feel?

I feel tired. I feel like I should slow down and take a nap. I feel frustrated that so many things aren’t as simple and easy as I had hoped. I feel like stepping back a smidge.

THE STRUGGLE IS REAL!!!

This thing we do – decide to do more, go harder, commit to new shit – it’s effing rough my friends. Seriously.

Here’s the thing though. IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE ROUGH WHEN YOU ARE LEVELING UP!

You are already ahead of the crowd because you are trying something new. That’s is the first step. Yay you. Pat on the back for you my friend.

The second step is to KEEP doing the new thing even when it stops being relatively easy. Keep going even when it is a struggle.

Everyone (and I mean EVERYONE) has struggle in their life.

People who have everything you want – they STRUGGLE. The thing about highly successful people? They keep going even when it’s a struggle.

I know that one of the most important things we can focus on is recognizing and reacting mindfully to our struggles.

Here is your STRUGGLE BATTLE PLAN:

STEP ONE: Feel something crappy.

Do you feel exhausted, over it, unworthy, criticized, uncertain, judged, shitty?

STEP TWO: Name your pain.

Recognize what is happening. You are encountering STRUGGLE. Struggle feels terrible. It is a real thing and you are not making it up or being weak.

STEP THREE: Redefine your pain.

Say to self: “Aha! Opportunity! For me! Thanks Universe!”

STEP FOUR: Identify next step to keep moving and not give up.

What is the thing you can do right now, today, to keep your momentum moving forward?

STEP FIVE: Do it.

Do something to show the universe that you are not done and you will not step down.

STEP SIX: Celebrate

Seriously, you need to acknowledge yourself and know that you are 10x more badass than the vast majority of the population. You pushed on. Feel your powerfulness.

STEP SEVEN: Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Yep, you have got to do it again. Because you are not done with the struggle feeling. It is going to come back. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe again today. But it will be back. And you know what to do.

You have dreams and goals and huge ideas. This is your opportunity to build a new muscle (slowly but surely) and to be the person who says, yes, this sucks but I am going to make the choice AGAIN to keep doing this.

Your commitment to yourself is something you get to choose every single day.

What you choose during the struggle defines you.

Choose your possibility.
Choose your greatness.
Choose yourself.
